Growth Mindset Planter Selfies

5th Grade

Students will explore the concept of growth mindset through art by creating self-portraits with symbolic flower petals. They will learn to mix colors to create skin tones, use analogous colors to create vibrant painted papers, and assemble their self-portraits to represent personal growth and development.

Rose's Garden

4th Grade

Students will create a cityscape using simple lines and shapes showing perspective in the style of the book “Rose’s Garden” by Peter H. Reynolds. Students will add painted paper flowers to show contrast between a black and white line drawing and colorful flowers.

Garden Painting

3rd Grade

Students will use the inspiration of contemporary artist John Dyer to paint a realistic garden or nature painting showing many different brushstrokes, mixing of paint colors, and showing areas of light and shadow.

Bug's Life

2nd Grade

Students will explore the world of insects and their environments through drawing, painting, and mixed media techniques. They will create a textured background, practice guided drawing of various bugs, and use painting and pastel techniques to add details and color. The final artwork will display a vibrant scene of insects in their natural habitat.

Ugly Duckling

1st Grade

Students will create an illustration of the “Ugly Duckling” inspired by contemporary artist Lucy Tiffney, focusing on the use of shape, color, and lines to develop both background scenery and the central character.

Painted Paper Collages

Kindergarten

Students will create a painted paper collage showing a realistic composition of trees, grass, clouds, sun, and flowers or apples. The students will be focusing on creating painted papers and cutting and gluing to creating a comprehensive image.
