The school year can be crazy so we are here to help with Garden Party lesson plans, crafted by the talented Keisha Casiano and Jennifer Hamilton. These lessons are designed to make art instruction simple and enjoyable, and they’re perfect for incorporating into an Art to Remember program and your school’s art show.
With lessons for K-5, you can work on the art throughout the school year, hold on to them for your art show, and you’ll be ready to go.
Imagine your students creating colorful, garden-themed masterpieces that are as delightful as they are creative. From painted paper collages to bugs life art, our Garden Party lesson plans are designed to inspire and engage young artists. Each project is packed with fun and easy steps that make creating art a blast for kids of all ages.
5th Grade
Students will explore the concept of growth mindset through art by creating self-portraits with symbolic flower petals. They will learn to mix colors to create skin tones, use analogous colors to create vibrant painted papers, and assemble their self-portraits to represent personal growth and development.
4th Grade
Students will create a cityscape using simple lines and shapes showing perspective in the style of the book “Rose’s Garden” by Peter H. Reynolds. Students will add painted paper flowers to show contrast between a black and white line drawing and colorful flowers.
3rd Grade
Students will use the inspiration of contemporary artist John Dyer to paint a realistic garden or nature painting showing many different brushstrokes, mixing of paint colors, and showing areas of light and shadow.
2nd Grade
Students will explore the world of insects and their environments through drawing, painting, and mixed media techniques. They will create a textured background, practice guided drawing of various bugs, and use painting and pastel techniques to add details and color. The final artwork will display a vibrant scene of insects in their natural habitat.
1st Grade
Students will create an illustration of the “Ugly Duckling” inspired by contemporary artist Lucy Tiffney, focusing on the use of shape, color, and lines to develop both background scenery and the central character.
Kindergarten
Students will create a painted paper collage showing a realistic composition of trees, grass, clouds, sun, and flowers or apples. The students will be focusing on creating painted papers and cutting and gluing to creating a comprehensive image.
We have SO many to choose from: flamingos, floating donuts, artsy otters, water bottles, rainbow animals, and more!
Ship your students’ artwork to us (we pay for shipping), we’ll scan it, send the art back to you, and parents can purchase products customized with the art. We’ll even create a file of custom art show labels, so you can label the art and parents can scan a QR code to shop while they look around. Oh, and all of that is free! Love this idea? Fill out the form below and we’ll send you more information about the fundraiser.
